At New Skin Design, we help inventors, startups, and SMEs transform ideas into market-ready products through a proven product design and development process.

Whether you need concept design, 3D CAD modelling, or rapid prototyping, our structured approach ensures your product is ready for manufacturing: efficiently and cost-effectively.

Although each client’s product design project is different, each having their own objectives, there is one constant: They are all on a journey on the road of product design. Whether they come to us at the start of that journey or nearer the end, New Skin Design has design services to aid them.

If you are about to undertake that product design journey, or would just like more information about the process, we have created a roadmap of all the stages involved indicating where New Skin Design can assist you.

Product Design Stage 1 - Product Concept

So you have a great idea, and need help developing it into an actual design concept, but are unsure what to do next.

New Skin Design can create drawings and 3D images of your product ideas for your evaluation. These images can be used to present your idea clearly to generate / gauge interest in the product and to help secure investment.

If your new product idea is novel, innovative and hasn’t been done before, now would be a good time to patent it, and protect your Intellectual Property.

As patents deal with the technical functionality of the device, exact shape, size and aesthetics are not required, just formal line drawings detailing how it works.

New Skin Design can prepare your formal drawings for patent applications. We only deal with the design side and cannot provide any legal advice. If you require professional legal IP assistance, we can point you in the right direction. We work closely with UK based Agile IP, and other IP attorneys in Spain.

Product Design Stage 2 - Design Development & Proposed Design

The product design concept is clear, any IP protection required has been applied for. It is now time to develop the design into a tangible product or at least a working prototype.

Through sketches, 3D visualization, and CAD models, New Skin Design can prepare proposed design solutions for you to evaluate and give feedback on. This is an iterative phase where we will work closely with you to develop the final design.

Product Design Stage 3 - Final Design

Once the final design has been approved, 3D CAD files and dimensioned engineering drawings and plans can be prepared. Before going to a manufacturer, to make your product, now would be a good time to evaluate the final design via a functional physical prototype.

Product Design Stage 4 - 3D Printed Prototype

New Skin Design can make product design prototypes in a variety of plastics. Our FDM 3D printers can work with PLA, PETG, ABS, PA (Nylon), PP, TPU and composites. For more details about the materials and their suitability for your product please see our 3D printing services page.

Any potential problems or design shortcomings can be spotted with a prototype before any expensive tooling has been made. Remedial action can then be taken until the prototype has been perfected.

At this stage our journey with you ends. We will provide you with all the 3D CAD files, engineering drawings and other supporting material required to successfully take your product to manufacture.

Product Design Stage 5 - Manufacture

Manufacturing is the most capital-intensive stage of product development. Tooling costs (moulds, jigs, fixtures) can be significant, so having a fully validated design is essential.

While we don’t manufacture directly, we ensure you are fully prepared for production and scaling.

Whether you are right at the start of your product design journey and need help developing the concept, or already have a fleshed out design and just need a 3D printed prototype to check everything works as it should, contact us today to discuss your project and take the next step toward bringing your product to market.
